Lesson

Problems studied in Biomechanics

  • Energy Cost – cost of muscular force production
  • Understanding of effects of microgravity on musculoskeletal system (mainly on bone)
  • Improvement of gait
  • Performance improvement through equipment design
  • Sports Technique via mechanical analysis of movement

An example:

Mechanical factors affecting the flight of a DISCUS

1.Speed of discus when released by thrower

2.Projection angle at which discus released

3.Height above ground at which discus released

4.Angle of attack (orientation of discus relative to existing air current)

Computer simulation then used the ideal combination of values of the above 4 variables which will give best desired result (here distance) for a given athlete.

GOLF VARIABLES:

Club SPEED, Club PATH (horizontal and vertical), Club FACE (horizontal and vertical), Club CENTEREDNESS of CONTACT
