Lesson
Neck Muscles - continued
Main POSTERIOR NECK muscles (ie. cervical region):
– Splenius Capitis
– Splenius Cervicis
[Primary cervical extensors] The FOUR suboccipitals assisting:
– Rectus Capitis Posterior Major and Minor
– Qbliquus Capitis Superior and Inferior
Unilateral tension in all these = lateral flexion OR ipsilateral rotation
Main LATERAL NECK muscles (ie. cervical region):
– Sternocleidomastoid (SCM)
– Levator Scapulae
– Scalenus Anterior, Posterior, Medius
–
[Bilateral SCM tension = neck flexion OR head extension
Unilateral SCM tension = ipsilateral lateral flexion OR contralateral rotation
Scalenes (all three) assist with neck flexion & lateral flexion]
