Loads on Hip
The hip, a major weight-bearing joint, is never fully unloaded during daily activities.
Upright standing: Weight supported by each hip = half the weight of all body parts above the hip = 1/3rd total body weight (BW)
Support phase of walking: Compression at the hip = 3 to 4 times BW
Climbing and descending stairs: 251% BW and 260% BW
Running at 3.5 meters/sec: 520% BW
Alpine skiing on a steep slope: 780% BW
Golf trail hip during downswing: ?
