Angular Kinetics - Positioning the Center of Gravity for Motion
In JUMPING events, the PATH of the CG is a sign of skilled performance. If
High jumpers use body lean and body flexion to lower the CG, AND
PROLONG SUPPORT FOOT TIME they are able to increase takeoff
IMPULSE.
Among better pole-vaulters, the CG is first lowered, then progressively
elevated from the third-last step until takeoff. Lowering CG enables
lengthening of the vertical path over which the body is accelerated during
takeoff, allowing for a high vertical velocity at takeoff.
